History
TWO HUNDRED YEARS PLUS 1771-1976
"Mr. & Mrs. Edward Messer opened their home in 1896 with 6 guests. Rates were $5.00-7.00 a week and references were required. As business increased buildings were enlarged and cottages were added. At one time as many as eighty-five guests could be accommodated. Entertainment was provided by a bowling alley, a dance hall, golf course, and a casino. In addition to the house, tents were provided on raised floorings set among shade trees."

The Messer Family continued to operate the inn, then known as Pleasant View Farm, until 1956. In the early 1900’s, Jack London, Gloria Swanson, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Chaplan and the Gish Sisters (Lillian & Dorothy) are among the famous signatures that appeared in the guest registers.

Winter
The Tavern Room windows glow with candlelight and the air is pungent with wood smoke. It is the kind of place that beckons you to hurry inside on a snowy night. The fireplaces blaze brightly and the candles cast flickering shadows. Snuggle up in an overstuffed chair with a good book in front of a crackling fireplace.

Spring
Beautiful gardens, flowering trees, plants, greenery. Visit many historical gardens all over New Hampshire.
Summer
New London Playhouse, concerts, golfing, antiquing, boat cruises, Mt. Sunapee Chairlift, biking, fishing and country fairs. Enjoy our gardens, croquet, or lemonade under our apple tree by the brook.

Covered bridges over rock-filled streams. Pristine church steeples against blue skies. Experience every color nature has to offer. Hike Mt. Kearsarge for a truly spectacular view! Return to the inn for hot mulled cider and to warm by the fire.
Mt. Sunapee and Pat’s Peak are all within minutes of the inn, snow shoe or cross country from the front door on our woodland trails. For the not-so-adventurous there’s ice skating or a romantic sleigh ride nearby.
